Yes to New Beginnings!

November 2025 – A significant new beginning for Melanie Winiger, presenter and model. For the first time, she is working in a permanent position – as the host of a new morning show on Radio Vintage in Zurich. I had the pleasure of being a guest on her very first show, where we talked about the theme of new beginnings. Here’s the link to the talk.

The turn of the year – an opportunity for realignment

For many people, the turn of the year is an opportunity to let go of the past and focus on what is yet to come. Do you also feel the impulse right now to try something new, put a resolution into action, or finally make a long-cherished wish come true?

Let these five reflections inspire you on your path toward a new beginning.

1. Is there a «right» time?

I believe we have to create it ourselves.

We are very good at finding reasons to stay with what is familiar – even when something new is clearly calling us or when we are suffering in our current situation.

Sometimes change is triggered from the outside, for example through job loss, a separation, or illness. Such events often catch us unprepared, and phases like processing and acceptance take priority. Only after that can a new beginning emerge. Yet even if we did not initiate the change ourselves, we still decide whether and when we allow something new into our lives – an important step out of paralysis and back into our own capacity to act.

2. How do we deal with fear, doubt, and inner resistance?

Fear and doubt are normal. Resistance too – because we naturally want to avoid unpleasant feelings. At the same time, every new beginning is an invitation to personal growth. This means allowing new or uncomfortable emotions and experiencing them consciously as part of the process.

We find orientation by consciously focusing mind and heart on the here and now. As a next step, place yourself inwardly into your desired future state – this strengthens your confidence and sense of security. It gives you the self-belief and positive energy you need to truly take action. A wonderful effect emerges: we experience self-efficacy and fulfillment, which strengthens our confidence and sustainably supports our well-being.

3. What positive effects does a new beginning have?

New beginnings enrich our lives. They often bring much more than we can see at the moment of departure:

  • personal growth through new experiences

  • inner clarity and new perspectives

  • self-efficacy, sustainable well-being, and satisfaction

4. What are the first steps?

Before something new can begin, there are phases we cannot skip – and they are just as important:

  • Saying goodbye and letting go of what no longer serves us

  • Enduring uncertainty and in-between spaces – a phase many people dislike because it feels unstructured and insecure. Yet this is exactly where the potential for something new lies.

  • Departure – the moment when we consciously decide: Now I’m going.

5. What supports a new beginning?

Putting a plan into action is like planting a seed: it needs the right conditions – nourishing soil, sufficient sunlight, water, and care – in order to grow into a plant. Become aware of the conditions that are important for you and seek out sources of inspiration that nourish your intention. These may be people close to you who encourage and support you, but also artists, musicians, or other inspiring personalities. Perhaps it is a song, a quote, or an image that gives you strength.
